Campaign Synchronization Issues

Table of Contents

Campaign not updating after a change

Changes made to a campaign in the Campaigns tab are sent to Google Ads via API. If after saving changes the campaign in Google Ads looks the same as before the edit, the cause may lie on Sembot's side or on Google's side.

What can be edited after saving a campaign

Sembot supports creating eight types of Google Ads campaigns:

Campaign type in SembotType
Product campaignShopping
Performance MaxPerformance Max
Search campaignSearch (standard)
DSA campaignSearch — Dynamic Search Ads
DSA brandSearch — DSA by brand
Search brandSearch by brand
DSA categorySearch — DSA by category
Search categorySearch by category

Once a campaign has been synchronized with Google Ads, editing is only possible within a limited scope:

What can be changed after synchronization:

  • Budget
  • Bidding strategy
  • Status (active / paused)
  • Targeting (countries, languages)

Microsoft Advertising campaigns (Bing)

Sembot supports creating three types of Microsoft Advertising campaigns:

Campaign type in SembotType
Product campaignShopping
Search campaignSearch

For Microsoft Advertising campaigns, after synchronization no fields are available for editing — the entire campaign configuration interface is locked. To make changes, you must delete the campaign and recreate it in Sembot.

Possible causes of an update not being applied

Synchronization delay Changes to campaigns are not propagated immediately — Google Ads may need anywhere from a few minutes to over ten minutes to process the update. Wait at least 15 minutes before concluding that the change did not go through.

Error during save The change may not have been saved correctly in Sembot. This can happen due to internet connectivity issues or if the session expired during editing.

No active Google Ads integration Synchronization requires an active connection between the Google Ads account and Sembot. If the access token has expired or the integration has been disconnected, changes will not be sent.

Campaign in a state that prevents editing Some changes (e.g., changing the campaign type or modifying the ad group structure) are not supported by the Google Ads API as an update — they require deleting and recreating the campaign.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Check whether the change is visible in Sembot — go to the Campaigns tab, open the campaign, and confirm that the saved value matches what you intended to change. If not — edit it again and save.

  2. Check the campaign synchronization status — in the campaign view in Sembot, look for information about the last synchronization or the Google Ads connection status. If synchronization ended with an error, a message should be visible.

  3. Check the integration status — make sure the Google Ads account is actively connected to Sembot. If the integration is inactive, you will need to reauthorize it.

  4. Verify in Google Ads — log in directly to Google Ads and check whether the change was applied. If not — return to Sembot and try saving the change again.

Discrepancies between Sembot and Google Ads data

Sembot displays Google Ads data in two places:

  • The Your Products tab — shows analytics data at the product level: conversions, clicks, costs, average CPC, CTR, and other metrics from the Shopping Performance report.
  • The Marketing Channels tab — shows statistics for campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and search terms from Google Ads.

Discrepancies between the data shown in Sembot and what Google Ads displays directly are normal and do not always indicate an error. Below are the most common causes of differences.

Why data may differ

Attribution window and conversion delay Google Ads reports conversions with a 30-day attribution window by default. Differences in conversion counts between platforms are typical and stem from this mechanism.

Different date ranges Make sure you are comparing identical date ranges in both platforms. Google Ads uses the advertiser account's time zone by default — verify that the date range in Google Ads matches what you see in Sembot.

Invalid traffic filtering Google Ads automatically excludes traffic deemed invalid (invalid clicks) from reports. Numbers may differ from raw data.

Type of reported metric Clicks, impressions, and costs may be counted differently depending on whether the data applies to campaigns, ad groups, or specific ads. Make sure you are comparing metrics at the same level of the hierarchy.

What to do when discrepancies are large

If the difference in costs or clicks exceeds 5–10% and cannot be explained by any of the above causes, check:

  • Whether there are active campaigns or ad groups in Google Ads that are not visible in Sembot
  • Whether the Google Ads account has additional users who may have made changes directly in Google Ads, bypassing Sembot

Campaign suspended / disapproved

This applies to campaigns in Google Ads created and managed through Sembot. A campaign may be suspended or disapproved by Google for several reasons. You can check the current campaign status in the Marketing Channels tab — Sembot displays the status synchronized with Google Ads.

Campaign suspended by Google

Google Ads policy violation Google automatically pauses campaigns that violate advertising policies. The most common causes are:

  • Ads or landing pages containing restricted content (supplements, medications, adult content without proper verification)
  • Mismatch between the ad content and the landing page
  • Use of restricted keywords or brand names without authorization

Account or billing issues

  • Google Ads account credit limit exceeded
  • Expired or declined payment card
  • Advertiser account suspended by Google (e.g., due to identity or payment verification)

How to check the reason for suspension

  1. Log in directly to Google Ads — in Google Ads, go to Campaigns, find the suspended campaign, and click the status icon. Google shows the reason for the suspension along with a link to the relevant policy.

  2. Check account notifications — Google Ads sends email notifications about suspensions. Check the inbox associated with your Google Ads account.

Disapproved campaign — how to fix it

  1. Identify the disapproved elements — in Google Ads, check which ads or extensions were disapproved. Google provides a specific reason for disapproval for each element.

  2. Make corrections — modify the ad content or landing page in accordance with Google's guidelines.

  3. Submit for re-review — after making corrections, Google automatically routes the modified ads for re-review. The process typically takes 1 business day.

  4. File an appeal — if you believe the disapproval is an error, you can file an appeal directly in Google Ads. Sembot does not handle the appeals process — it takes place entirely on Google's side.
