When a Token Expires and What Happens
Connections to advertising platforms (Google Ads, Meta, Microsoft Advertising) are based on OAuth tokens. Sembot automatically refreshes tokens in the background — under normal circumstances, this requires no user intervention.
However, a token may expire or become invalid in the following situations:
- The user manually revoked Sembot's access in their Google, Meta, or Microsoft account settings.
- The password for the advertising platform account was changed.
- The account of the user who authorized the connection was suspended or deleted.
- The maximum refresh token validity period defined by the platform has elapsed (this varies by provider).
- A long period of connection inactivity.
Effects of Token Expiration
When a token expires, Sembot suspends all operations that require access to the given platform:
- Data synchronization is stopped.
- Automated rules and optimizations stop working for campaigns linked to the affected account.
- An error icon appears next to the connection in the dashboard.
Historical data retrieved before the token expired remains available in Sembot.
Manual Connection Refresh
If a token has expired or a connection shows an error, you need to create a new connection and assign it to the project.
- Go to Workspace Settings → Connections and create a new connection to the relevant platform (Google, Meta, Microsoft).
- After authorization, return to the Connections tab in the side menu and locate the inactive connection in the project.
- Click the three-dot icon next to the connection, select Change Connection, and choose the newly added connection from the list.
Make sure the new connection was made using the same advertising account that was originally linked. Selecting a different account will change the data source in the project.
Expired Token Notifications
Sembot notifies users of connection issues via an error icon displayed directly next to the affected connection in the dashboard. Once an error is noticed, follow the steps described in the Manual Connection Refresh section.
