Creating Your First Project
A project is the basic organizational unit in Sembot. Before you can manage campaigns, feeds, or integrations, you need at least one project — all activities and data are associated with it.

What is a project — data and permission boundaries
A project defines an isolated space in which:
- data is separated — product feeds, campaigns, rules, and event history belong exclusively to that project and are not visible in others,
- permissions are managed independently — you can invite other users to one project without granting them access to others,
- integrations are assigned per project — a Google Ads account connected to project A is not automatically available in project B.
A single user can belong to multiple projects and switch between them using the project selector in the top navigation bar. Common scenarios include: a separate project for each managed store, or a division by geographic market.
How to create a project
- After logging in, click Create new project on the start screen, or select the option to add a project from the project selector in the top navigation bar.
- Fill in the Project details form (field descriptions below).
- Click Create project — Sembot will take you to the new project's dashboard.
Form field descriptions
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Project name | Visible in navigation and on the project list — choose a name that clearly identifies the store or market (e.g., "Store US", "MyBrand DE"). Required field. |
| Your website | The URL of the store's main domain. Used for feed verification and conversion tracking configuration, among other things. |
| Project type | Defines the nature of the project — affects available features (see section below for details). Required field. |
| Preferred currency | The project's billing currency — affects how costs and revenues are displayed. Once the project is saved, changing the currency requires contacting support. |
| Product feed language | The language used for parsing and searching products and for comparison shopping integrations. Does not change the application interface language. Required field. |
| Add team members | Optional — you can immediately invite other people by name or email address. Invitations can also be sent later from the project settings. |
| Add to Sembot comparators | Checkbox — check this if you want to include the project in Sembot's default price comparison services. |
Project types
Sembot offers three project types:
eCommerce
Full platform functionality — dedicated to online stores selling products through their own website. Enables management of product feeds, Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising campaigns, Google Merchant Center (GMC) integration, and price monitoring.
CSS only
A type designed for entities operating exclusively as a Comparison Shopping Service (CSS) within the Google program. Provides access to features related to managing product campaigns through CSS without the full e-commerce module.
non-eCommerce
For projects that do not conduct product sales — e.g., service websites, content portals, or brands operating offline. The range of available features is limited to brand and remarketing campaigns; product feed and GMC modules are not available.
What to do after creating a project
After saving the project, Sembot will take you to its dashboard. The next steps depend on your goal:
- Connect a product feed — for Sembot to have product data, add an input feed (XML, CSV, or direct integration with an e-commerce platform). Details in chapter 5.
- Connect an advertising account — go to Integrations → Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising and authorize access. Without this integration, Sembot can prepare campaigns but will not send them to the ad network.
- Invite your team — if more people will be working on the project, go to Project settings → Users and send invitations with appropriate roles.
- Configure conversion tracking — for Sembot to optimize campaigns for sales, it needs conversion data. Configuration is available under Integrations → Conversion Tracking.
You can complete these steps in any order — the dashboard displays a list of incomplete configuration steps until the project is fully set up.
